Welcome

Welcome to the official Site of the FAO-ECTAD regional unit at the RAHC in Gaborone!

The ECTAD unit is in existence since June 2007 and together with the OIE and AU-IBAR partners in the Regional Animal Health Centre for Southern Africa, we have started our support to the SADC region’s livestock sector with special focus on Transboundary Animal Disease control.

The threat of HPAI to the SADC region is real, although to date the region remains free of the disease. This can only be maintained if all countries remain vigilant in their efforts on preparedness, early detection and surveillance in high risk areas for introduction of the disease.
