Diagnostic Capacity Assessment
The central veterinary laboratories of the SADC region have responded to the threat of Avian Influenza (HPAI) incursion into the region by upgrading their diagnostic capacity for the disease. They have been assisted by different collaborating partners. In 2008 to 2009 FAO ECTAD assisted this group by launching a full diagnostic capacity assessment for the detection of HPAI.
The report gives details on staff composition, equipment in place, Bio-security level, diagnostic tests carried out, utilities and general services and documentation procedures in place.
