The SADC Epidemiology and Informatics Subcommittee (SADC-EIS) is one of the four technical sub-committees of SADC Livestock Technical Committee (SADC-LTC), under the Food and Natural Resources Directorate (FANR) of SADC.
The main role of this subcommittee is to coordinate and network with the other subcommittees on various livestock activities in the SADC region and in particular work and report on technical tasks assigned by the Livestock Technical Committee.
The specific objectives of the EIS are to:
Develop animal disease information systems
Disseminate animal disease data/information to relevant stakeholders
Develop animal disease early warning, early reaction systems
Harmonize disease control and surveillance strategies in the SADC region
Network with regional and international organizations
Promote the application of SPS measures to enhance safe trade in livestock and their products
The EIS holds two meetings annually and the FAO-ECTAD for Southern Africa has been instrumental in providing technical and financially support to these meetings.
